so i know we aren't speculating on Fairford because of course none of us would ever do that, but given that we've got five white looking british nationals from London

This is what the Situationists were talking about btw
Bro, people are going to build entire lives around the neighbors they’ve found in these anti-ICE signal chats. Marriages, lifelong friendships, weird hobbies. It is actually breaking my brain. I am almost crying in the club (chat).

We're living through the right wing version of what would have happened if the situationists had taken power in France in 1968 off their slogans like "it is forbidden to forbid" and "when parliament becomes bourgeois theater, bourgeois theatres will become parliaments"

The Situationists were right.
In a sense, though, it caught something in how anti-capitalist forms-of-life tends to be integrated into the system, no matter how transgressive one might view their role

i often hear people say that all radical movements can be co-opted and neutered by capitalism (citing Mark Fisher or the Situationists). i get it – so much "radical" art enriches billionaires! – but i actually think this is becoming less and less true. global capitalism is increasingly too fragile.

i think a lot about the usage of memetic warfare as a form of détournement (coined by the situationists from the 1960s)

also you're not even particularly 'niche' on this front? it's not like abnormal mapping is going "we're situationists now"

hvis jeg var en hot rød ungdom-babe ville jeg ditchet hammer og sigd-g-strengen for et «situationists, not situationships» tramp stamp

men heldigvis er jeg ikke det

To be followed by the neo-Situationists & neo-Letterists
January 23, 2026 at 8:49 PM
Yeah. You wouldn't tell the Situationists that they were misunderstanding the ads they were detourning. Same applies here.

...And how could I have forgotten the Yes Men.

Relatedly, I've been following grps like MSCHF, and I sometimes wonder: do you kids know about 90s culture jamming? AdBusters? The Situationists? SO MANY amazing historical traditions to learn from :)

If 20th century situationists heard about “situationships” they’d be like

hmmm yes this term accurately describes the shift from fulfillment of authentic desires in relationships to relationships addled with passive alienation which damages the quality of human life for individuals and society
