About 12 million years ago there used to be a primate called Sivapithecus, it was an ancestor of modern orangutans and basically looked like a chimpanzee with an orangutan face.

They had teeth meant for eating tubers and such, not tree fruits, they probably didn't live in trees.

Oo, that’s interesting and makes sense. Sivapithecus is a great reference point.

'Why are we making the entire branch of species of primate containing sivapithecus, the ancestor of modern orangutangs, migrate away from us to Asia?'

'Because they ponginae'.
I know this means shared in that both our ancestors had the capability but I am choosing to believe it means 15 million years ago, great apes and humans hd a laugh together over some unknown but very ancient joke.

there is some evidence of sexual dimorphism in the taxon which is common in both pongines and hominins, i sort of picture an animal similar to an orangutan but with fewer derived features based on this more complete skull from its relative, sivapithecus

A new paper out from our Miocene project in India - updated FAD for Sivapithecus in India, ~200,000 years older than in Pakistan. Congrats to Deepak Choudhary who put in an extraordinary amount of work on this. Also to Dan, Chris, Biren, Rajeev and the rest of the team. dx.plos.org/10.1371/jour...

i do not CARE about the missing link for humanity we have all the links. I want the gorilla record. I want to see the path from Sivapithecus to Gorilla.

Apparently we only have teeth and jaw of the Gigantopithecus, and most of the models of the animal are speculation? I wanna confirm this.

There is so much mistaken identity stuff in dinosaur fossils. Would be funny if no one's tried to genotype it either.
