As I'm planning next years field season, I wonder if anyone on here would like to run a small island project on Skúvoy with me. I will be catching and samling great skuas, but there will be good opportunities to investigate other aspects of seabird island ecology 🌍🧪 #seabirds

A reminder that many North Atlantic seabird populations were decimated by the #HPAI (which is primarily a man-made issue), this great skua skull most likely is from the outbreak in 2022, when approximately 70% of the breeding birds died over a span of a few weeks. We have fortunately not seen any

The best thing about studying great skua diet is that you end up studying other seabirds too. It suits my undiagnosed magpiebrain very well! #seabirds 🧪🌍

The word from Skúvoy is similar, that it's looking very bad. Parents are bringing shrimp back to their chicks which is usually a very bad sign.
