Last week I hosted an @oieahc.bsky.social Coffeehouse featuring SlaveVoyages, one of the longest running & most transformative digital history projects ever. The project began with NEH funding. It is a concrete example of the power of public investment in our past.

It isn't either a repository for many data sets. Here's the result for example of the page for the slavevoyages data set. It will forever load without loading. Like Waiting for Godot but more like Godata.

About a quarter of all enslaved Africans confirmed to have arrived in the United States came from a region that included Angola, according to SlaveVoyages, a digital database. That is more than anywhere else in Africa.

It says it is building on the voyages database www.slavevoyages.org - which is a valuable resource - though it would explain how some known errors Tattersfield and other secondary sources are present in the new database.
