Lay copper tape (from the garden center) along the rows of lettuce. Or, if in a raised bed, put the copper tape along the top edge of the bed. Slugs won't cross it and therefore no slug slime.

in fact, i think i like that i'm able to just roll out of bed and put on shorts and a tshirt for my entire work day. it lets me get A TON of stuff done around the house between meetings. when i'm "dressed up" i have to change. like right now i couldn't go play with a neat slug i found in my backyard
