I have worked how to use @home-assistant.io to send ssh commands to a Raspberry Pi.
So now I can automate power down on my Pis, using ssh to shutdown and then turn off the Matter smartplugs they're connected to.
Restart is simply turning the smartplug back on.
Honestly pretty cool.

I truly wish for a version that is local and is just smart enough for timers/alarms and the commands for my few lights that are on smartplugs. (Hands full or having difficulty getting up from bed (such as post surgery) makes those useful for SOME lights.)

One of our smartplugs broke so we might as well put it there. The function to power on and off does not work any longer. Letting power through constantly. Since we buy smartplugs on packs of four returning one would mean returning four.

Washing machine/dryer: to send a notification to your phone when it’s done. Particularly with modern resource efficient programs (which tend to take longer — if I put mine in Eco mode it’s a 4.5 hour wash) that’s not useless.

Ah we have smartplugs in all our properties. We use Google Home to remotely turn on things—& Hive for heating too. Can't they just use the button on the smartplug if they don't have a phone or permission?

Ich hatte noch keine Zeit mich mit den Smartplugs zu beschäftigen, die ich mit dem Speicher gekauft habe – da gibt es bestimmt (bald?) die Möglichkeit, mit Wetterdaten die WaMa automatisch zu starten.

I bought 7 of these #LocalBytes UK #smartplugs back in October 2021. Pre-flashed with #Tasmota (although I changed them to #ESPHome). The last one failed yesterday. Light loads. One failed dangerously (case melted). Rest stopped switching or just died. That's 100% failure rate in 3 years. #crap
