#SnakeWeek begins! An Emerald Tree Boa (Corallus canina) from Suriname, about 1.3m in length. These snakes live up in the forest canopy, pursuing birds and small mammals, and aided by a series of heat-sensing organs running along the upper line of the mouth. #herps #snakes #NaturePhotography 🌿

🐍Young green tree python (Morelia viridis).

Max length ~2m (~6'7").

Juvenile green tree pythons are usually yellow or red. They turn green at an age of 6-12 months.

Found in/around New Guinea and in Cape York, Australia.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

Today for #SnakeWeek is one of my favorite encounters over the last two years, a Timber Rattlesnake, Crotalus horridus found in what is almost certainly an ambush position. No, it does not want to ambush humans or our pets, we are far too large, but it’s probably hoping for a chipmunk…
