Blu was starting to doze off in the tree when he heard the faint sounds of footsteps and armor. He crawled forward to get a better look and only saw a hint of orange hair and a trail of blood behind them. Quickly dropping out of the tree, Blu informed everyone what he saw. Balan immediately started running back the way they came. Dias and Colel called after him, but he ignored their calls and kept running. Balan stumbled a few times, but eventually caught up to her. Cam was dragging her large sword behind her, her hair no longer tied up in its usual bun and a trail of blood that was dripping from her @nger tips that originated in a gash in her upper arm. “Cam! You made it! Let me help you to the others.” Balan was overwhelmed with relief to see her. “Of course I did. Did you doubt me?” Cam let Balan support her as they walked through the snow.

But what I managed to translate and test to a degree was that not only should there be a contract, but a person has to have an affinity for a particular elemental. I tried to fire Blu’s gun earlier and it wouldn’t. It wouldn’t even glow like it does for him. He has the affinity for it.” “Loke, if this is about what I said the other day about carrying your own weight…” Magnar hoped she wasn’t hurting herself on his account. She cut him off. “No, well, yes. But not entirely. It sparked some curiosity, so I felt the need to look into it. I tend to get absorbed in my work when that happens. But also, you’re getting rather expensive, so if I can cut back on how much I need to rely on you, maybe I can save a few taak in the process.” Magnar couldn’t help the laugh that came out. He had been worried when she was being somewhat nice and almost considerate, but there was always that bite at the end again.

The architecture was seamless, integrated into the landscape of the ocean floor, with elements that mirrored the sea life around it—buildings shaped like shells, towers that resembled the limbs of deep—sea creatures, and doorways framed by curling tendrils of coral. Bridges arched between the buildings, their surfaces smooth and iridescent, connecting the different sections of the city. Marokh could see figures moving across the bridges—tall, elegant forms, their crab—like bodies draped in flowing garments that shifted with the water’s currents. Others were slender beings draped in flowing garments that seemed to be made of seaweed and light, their movements so fluid they appeared to glide more than swim. Their presence was subtle, quiet, as though the city itself breathed them into being. They were like wisps, and Marokh was careful not to let his gaze linger upon them.

Brikie wasn’t the only one searching for the shards on behalf of the Wanderers. Of course she wasn’t. The resistance group was a vast network, their members scattered across Verdantia, each with their own missions and objectives. There were others out there, seasoned operatives and skilled warriors all driven by the same goal. Despite the numbers, Brikie felt that the task of finding the shards fell squarely on her shoulders. It wasn’t arrogance; at least, not exactly. She had simply been through too much and emerged victorious against too many impossible odds to doubt herself now. The Wanderers might be capable, but Brikie knew that if the Shards were to be found, she would be the one to find them. It was an unshakeable belief, a certainty that burned within her as fiercely as the desert sun. Others might rely on magic, maps, or arcane knowledge, but Brikie relied on herself, on the keen edge of her senses, on the silent footsteps she took through the night. The Druids were cunning, but so was she. The shards were elusive, but Brikie thrived on the chase. It was what made her dangerous, what made her the perfect agent for this mission. The path ahead would be difficult, fraught with dangers she couldn’t yet foresee, but that was nothing new. She had walked such paths before and she would walk this one too, all the way to the end.
