He pulled his hand back. “I would like you to know that you may communicate with me more freely if you so wish.” Her brows shot up. Ezra wanted to talk to her more? He continued, “I would like to address something, and if you are not ready, you do not have to speak on it, but I am here to once again warn you to be careful. It may take months, it may take years, but you will eventually return to your world. The Realm could never balance itself with your power for long.”

From Never Leave the Galaxy Without My Love, a WIP sequel to Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel “My name is —” she started to say, but Rune cut her off. “I don’t need to know your name.” He heard her little intake of breath, of surprise, and arousal, at his brusqueness. She didn’t want her name whispered sweetly in her ear, she wanted to be plundered roughly by a rude outerworlder. And he was okay with that. It was easier that way. “Is it true,” the controller asked after a moment, confirming his read of her, “that one touch of these hands and I would be helpless against anything you wanted to do to me?” The controller’s hand strayed boldly to his where he caged her against the desk, and stroked over the back of his leather glove that hid his paralyzing poison spines. Discomfort immediately roiled in Rune’s gut. Only one person had ever been allowed to touch his hands that way. Never again. Rune snatched up the controller’s wrist in his gloved fist instead, bending over her and making her lips part with lust and anticipation. “I’m not into that,” he growled. It wasn’t the first time he’d been asked to use his poison that way, but the thought of it made his skin crawl. Instead, he leaned towards the controller and crowded her against the desk. “When I take you,” he said, pressing close so that her head bowed back as he bore down on her, “I don’t want you cold and stiff like a dead fish. I want to see you writhe as I hold you down. I want to see you struggle to take my big cock and hear you moan.”

Is this why he wanted the other two to go, so they wouldn’t witness this side that she had only gotten glimpses of? She swallowed the lump in her throat before she answered him. “Everything. I feel everything too much. I was always in trouble for it in my world and I’m the same lost cause here.” Nothing good ever met her when she was a small child with big feelings—screaming, ignoring, or shame…all sent those feelings into overdrive. If she didn’t suppress them, didn’t shove them down until she was exhausted, she would spiral and never recover. Her body kept her locked in fight, flight, or freeze, and she had never been good at fighting.

She’d never tell him the power it held over her when he could make the word sound like either a prayer or a curse. “You’re doing it right now,” she muttered, knowing damn well he could hear her.

This kingdom’s people were desperate for a savior that would come and answer their dying pleas—but she’d rather burn the Realm than save anyone ever again. She turned, taking in the sight of the burning palace beyond the clearing, saturating the night in a hazy orange hue as the once-sturdy beams of Idol’s Keep collapsed inwards with a series of resounding crashes. The inferno ravaged the structure, swallowing what remained of the fortress, the ruined silhouette a stark contrast against the blazing sky.
