First (and only) time seeing this species - and this doesn’t appear to be a larval-stage - perhaps a juvenile, just post-metamorphosis.

Two different #soapfish larvae from the same dive last week. The 1st is ~4mm, while the 2nd is ~6mm. They are indeed on the “no-lick list”, as the adults are well known for their ability to exude a white toxic goo (the “soap”) through their skin when stressed, (or licked).

Two fish that could not be more different. The always curious, extraverted, daytime French Angel with its obvious beauty that never lies on the sand and the secretive, solitary, primarily nocturnal Greater Soapfish with its subtle beauty that often lies on the sand.

So, I may or may not have made a pressure sona……okay I did. I don’t have much info on her just yet but I do have the animals that she in mixed with. She is a mixture of a Northern Green Anaconda, Sailfish, Lanternfish, Beta Fish, Soapfish, and Tree Frog.

Lined soapfish. Called "soapfish" as when agitated it produces a toxic mucus that forms a bitter, slippery, soapsuds-like froth. If a larger fish tries to eat the soapfish, it immediately spits it out because of its terrible-tasting, poisonous slimy coating.

Dearth of large fish eg groupers at Anilao - there is much fishing - but did see small Longfin (Epinephelus quoyanus) & White-streaked groupers (E. ongus).
Other Serranidae included Sea Goldie (Pseudanthias squamipinnis) & Goldenstriped Soapfish (Grammistes sexlineatus).

My fave fish @elrioymar, seen only once, in Oct '23, was this big Crocodile Flathead (Cymbacephalus beauforti). Other Perciformes were Barred Soapfish (Diploprion bifasciatum), Devil Scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis diabolus) & Zebra Lionfish (Dendrochirus zebra). #coralreefs 20/25
