Here with the Yamaha SoftSynth for 1998 FF7 PC, it sounds overall like what you're used to, but differences all over the place make it sound like some parallel world rendition.

I love electronic music where someone takes a softsynth that is imitating a real life instrument that you would play in an arpeggiated way and they just play big blocky chords with it in their daw midi roll, its like a weird transmuting object.

I think the funniest thing I could do is make a fangame of sometime and use MIDI files from vgmusic dot com, but to make sure they sound right on all the computers I record MP3s of the MIDI files from a softsynth and make the game play those instead of the MIDIs themselves
