In both Gao and Timbuktu (another Songhai city), Mansa Mūsā commissioned an architect from Mecca to build mosques.

Next is Koga! His armor is a reflection of his new Songhai heritage + his original character. His fur is now modeled after that of the African Golden Wolf. His Zarma name is Gaabi (strength, to be strong). #blacktober

Next up is Kagome! Since slicked hair is common, I decided to fashion some parts from the front to keep it interesting. Her shirt has a collar and western style tie. Her Zarma name is "Cura", which means "bird". #blacktober

First up in the Inuyasha redraw series is the dog man himself. I initially drew him just as he was, but as I drew more characters, I decided to take a jump and make them all Songhai inspired due to the shared time period. His Zarma name is "Hansi", meaning "dog". #blacktober #illustration

The Inuyasha redraw series continues with Kagura. She was my personal favorite to redraw. Her Zarma name is Hamni (hair, feather, fur; small winged insect of any sort). #blacktober

Next up in the redraw series is Miroku. Since he was the first male character I drew in this series with short hair, I took the opportunity to try something more Songhai. His Zarma name is "Alfa" ((n.) marabou, religious teacher; (by extension) priest). #blacktober

This is when I really started getting serious with these. Kikyo redraw. I used "Kagome"/"Cura" as a reference. Her Zarma name is Hanna (hanno, hanna*), meaning pure, good, beautiful, fine, holy. I found a traditional Songhai hairstyle to replace ger bangs and fringe. #blacktober
