It's just another attempt to call us something other than Black or African American. I've seen it spelled Soulanni like the Fulani tribe in West Africa.

Which is why I would like to try to make Syd's Soulanni heritage apart of why she is supernatural. I was thinking that she could be a mix of her culture's vers of a doppelgänger at first (ala tvd) & a "reincarnation"
But now I'm not too sure. I should def do more research lol
