After 40hrs of relentless strong cold southerlies the wind has died & it's a frickin magnificent day in Ōtepoti

Our house is shaking with this wind.

Our house normally only shakes in a Northerly.

These Southerlies hitting Wellington are definitely big!

southerlies are bullshit

Still plenty of Clouded yellows about ... maybe with this weekend's southerlies, they'll still arriving? These two were at Grangemoor Park today, the second a stunning f. helice. #SouthWalesButterflies

Very few moths on a night of howling southerlies but what there was at the Obs included three singles of note: Ni Moth, Small Marbled and Blair's Mocha

I see the wind changes to southerlies next week.

Hopefully bringing Spotted Flycatcher and Whinchat.

Sharp updrafts, southerlies near the sfc, nw flow aloft, low bases, I've seen week developed funnels on days like this before, drone is up. #wawx Puget Sound

More unseasonable warmth. Penultimate day of September perhaps will be hotter than these displayed values.

Strong warm air advection/southerlies from deep Atlantic low which hits buffers near Ireland.

3°C windchill on Otago Peninsula with 80km southerlies & sideways wind! #Spring Ōtepoti Dunedin
Are we allowed to complain about the fucking weather on here?
November 15, 2024 at 12:48 AM
@ukhousemartins.bsky.social First HMs of the year have arrived here in Cornwall. At least one chattery nest so far. Balmy southerlies meant this was bound to happen. Summer is here already!

A change in the forecast for Thursday - and it's a good one! The blocking easterlies will give way to warm southerlies direct from North Africa, hopefully resulting in the best migrant moth night of the year so far (not hard!). #teammoth

Today the sea was a chiselled sheet of pewter. Then, in strengthening gales, appeared to be made from thick oil paint scraped by a palette knife. Look closely! The surface texture, crafted by pulsing southerlies, resembles the brush & knife strokes of Van Gogh!

What a day Ōtepoti.

Once again, repetition for clarification, autumn is the best season in Dunedin.

Warm days, cool nights & the southerlies are excused because of days like today where the harbour is a mirror

An autumnal night in St Mellion, with a strong southerly wind and rain. There was a new species to Cornwall in the moth trap in the shape of Smoky Wave (Scopula ternata). Whether it arrived from France on the southerlies or dispersed from Dartmoor, we'll never know. #teammoth

Is that why those extra tight stubbies were invented? Gotta stop those brisk southerlies somehow. 🤣

Rough weather with near gale southerlies and rain in Fair Isle this morning. Seawatching the order of the day with a couple of Sooty Shearwaters the highlight.

Looks like potentially a good night for #nocmig tomorrow (map below). Clear skies tonight and ducks moving silently eastbound over Longdendale @derbyshirebirds.bsky.social #UKBirding

Light southerlies today followed by deteriorating conditions and some overnight rain forecast mean it could be productive for passerines early tomorrow? 🤞

The Grampians fire last night spread between 13,000ha to 28,000 overnight in mild southerlies. This is far beyond what any current fire models will predict.

Terrifying that this is the start of summer.

Thinking of the community at Pomonal, less than a year since they burnt and threatened again.
The state of Victoria is ablaze with fires raging through the Grampians/gariwerd, wombat state forest near Macedon, my home of Creswick and the Gurdies in the south east.

Perfect week for the Environment Minister to approve new monster coal mines and turbo charge climate change.
