These guys are my little buddies because unlike the fire ants, they’re not aggressive and they don’t bite very often (and don’t have stingers or venom if they do).

They also prey on widow spiderlings and their eggs. And they have a cool name.

I like them.

Been overwhelmed with life, but the last of my spiderlings molted last week and *finally* accepted prey after not eating for a month, and that felt good.

Nature built the Wolf Spider for one job and it shows

It hunts on foot instead of spinning a web, the mother carries her egg sac attached to her spinnerets, and the spiderlings then ride on her back.

Day 23: Spider Lilies start out as small little spiderlings, but grow into kaiju demons hell-bent on consuming others, not for sustenance, but for assimilation. You see, Spider Liles represent reincarnation, changing biomass on a whim. Would you join their next brood?

"Warmer conditions are helping wasp spiders spread through Britain... researchers described northern populations mating earlier in the season and young spiders better able to withstand extreme cold after adjusting to chilly conditions."
Wasp Spiders That Eat Their Mates Are Spreading North Across Britain
Learn how recent British sightings and experiments with spiderlings help explain the wasp spider’s spread into colder places.

Some spiders from the last few days. Anypheana numida, Liocranum rupicola the Pied Stone spider and Parasteatoda spiderlings, P.tepidariorum? Also possible new site for what is likely Helpis. For size it has a small fruit fly. @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @sewbrec.org.uk

Our house has been full of 'vinegar flies' because we have ripening tomatoes and apples indoors. Also discovered mass of Steatoda nobilis spiderlings have dispersed around the upstairs room where we use our microscopes. Have been gathering them up and moving them outside

It's spider season! 🕷️
Garden Cross Spiders are sprinkled across my allotment now. They're common but it's worth stopping to admire their beautiful markings.
And it seems a good time to look back and celebrate some other super spiders I've seen this year too. 🕸️

This weekend was for spider sightseeing! A beautiful yellow orbweaver, a small colorful jumping spider, and the largest wolf spider I've seen this year (~1inch) with some of her babies still hanging on. I also saw a massive black widow by the wood shed but I did not stop for a photo. #spiders

Maybe put Gwen in time out only until you make an Araneae cage for the PS5? Then Gwen can still gaze in at the tech and the PS5 can gaze out at the arthropod.

Tech tip: future proof by ensuring that Gwen’s many, many 1-3mm spiderlings also won’t fit through the mesh.

Next up: PS5 cooling system

i know it's spider breeding season, but this takes the piss - i've mostly gotten over my grievances with spiders, but not when there's like 30+ Spiderlings chilling on my fridge :S

we've had to do the unspeakable in order to reclaim my kitchen. i feel horrible about it, but it's a necessary evil 😔

One of the Spiderlings took the roach from the tongs, struck so hard it ripped a leg off the roach that got stuck to their foot, then ran up the tongs, onto my hand and trying to happy dance on my wrist, so I tried to gently place them back into their enclosure, they dropped the roach on the ground.

My house is absolutely full of spiders & I'm starting to wonder if letting a spider raise a trillion spiderlings in my bike basket earlier this year wasn't such a great idea (but I couldn't bear to move her!).

I'm not an authority on wolf spiders and the spiderlings cover the additional diagnostic markings on the abdomen but, given the size, if you are anywhere in the east that animal is probably Rabidosa rabida

Meet Ephie, a woman who transformed into an Arachne after a tragic accident, now working as a somewhat reclusive tailor who makes beautiful outfits with the durability and defensive prowess of metal armor! She's also a mother to a large amount of little "spiderlings" whom she adores.
