#spillovers
This is a strawman. Of course we should build attainable homes. The point of housing ladder spillovers is that *even* high-end supply helps improve affordability.

More generally, large epidemics don’t always involve multiple spillovers. The 2014 Ebola outbreak likely began with a single introduction into humans: www.who.int/news-room/sp...

Vietnam has a lot going on

• High speed rail
• Large metro buildout
• Production spillovers from China
• Structural transformation through services and higher education

1: For every hour you travel from the nearest clinic, the odds of detecting an outbreak decreases by about 1/3.

👉 For policymakers: the best thing we can do to catch and intercept spillovers before they become epidemics is build rural clinics and pay for diagnostic machines and supplies.

Some of these experiments - like dismantling financial regulation - could have spillovers to the rest of us across the globe.
I don't think the average American understands how bad things are going to get.

Researchers typically assume that student-level randomization in college classrooms will bias treatment effects toward zero, due to spillovers

Every freedom loving American should buy Canadian but I am quite concerned about the criminal spillovers of the coming smuggling boom
What do we think about this?

Are malls around the Lower Mainland going to be inundated with WA and OR licence-plated cars?

What's the economic impact of this?

Will I have to fight off Americans on Switch 2 release day at the Best Buy?

New literature review on housing ladder spillovers:

When rich tech workers move in, low-end rents go up. So does it follow that adding high-end homes would reduce them?

Yes. Changes at the top of the ladder can propagate down and affect prices at the bottom.

Given those conditions under a zoonosis hypothesis, you would expect multiple spillovers to occur, with most of those likely going extinct.

However, we see clear evidence of multiple spillovers having occurred - at a minimum two distinct ones.

The evidence supports the alt theory of a spillover from animals sold at the market. Spillovers also happen to account for all other novel infectious disease epidemics.

I'm tired of writing about this since I'm tired of the harassment. Pretty much every science writer I know feels the same.

Would have been cool to see comparisons to the SARS2-related spillovers in pangolins, and to the SARS-CoV-2 spillovers to white tailed deer!

In each case we know that there were spillovers, and testing each would show how sensitive these methods are to known spillovers of different sizes

3: Our findings strongly challenge an existing consensus, developed by both scientists and journalists (e.g., David Quammen's popular book Spillover) that spillover and therefore pandemics are an unnatural phenomenon driven primarily by human encroachment on nature. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
