In a recent interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Fr. Ramon Unson Merino, an exorcist and parochial vicar of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Makati, addressed the concept of spiritual warfare. He emphasized that while the battle occurs in the unseen spiritual realm, it has tangible effects on people's lives. Fr. Merino explained that the devil can manifest through unexplained illnesses, sudden business failures, and negative thoughts, which he referred to as 'oppression' and 'obsession.' He also highlighted the 'openings' that allow the devil to enter lives, such as the popularity of occult practices, the younger generation straying from God, and societal norms that normalize wrongdoing. The priest stressed that unforgiveness and mortal sins can also create vulnerabilities for spiritual attacks. As Filipino Catholics prepare for All Saints' Day, Fr. Merino encouraged the community to seek the intercession of saints, noting that saints, despite their human flaws, provide powerful examples of responding to God's will. He emphasized that the journey on earth is temporary, and the ultimate desire is eternal life, with saints' intercession being a vital support in spiritual battles. The interview underscores the ongoing dialogue within the Catholic community about spiritual challenges and the role of faith in navigating them.
