This is interesting as mainstream censorship today (which the MPAA effectively is-- NC-17 is the kiss of death, PG-13 is the key to riches) has essentially given non splattercore violence a pass and focused entirely on sex, swearing and drugs.

I'm 2 hours into #RomeoIsADeadMan. It's bizarre. It starts the story three times over, remixing plot points. It flits between splattercore hack 'n' slash, surreal sci-fi, odd platforming, pixel art interludes. Metacritic 72% (40-95% split) meant I was waiting for a bad part. But it didn't come. Yet.

That reminds me of the Cemetery Dance anthology I own where since Tom Piccirilli was editing, every story ends with a last half-page of splattercore bullshit whether the story should have had it or not

The aesthetic of fights I envision is splattercore sentai, but the overall tone is hopeful and is about humanity pulling back from the edge. Your story could end up tragically, but the world's story won't. The question driving the drama is "will you live to see the world you are fighting for?"
