Russia's Baltic spoofers – a triptych

Russian ship spoofers as electronic warfare art.

As the actual investigation is taking a long time.

@pa.nton.cx with groundbreaking spoofing research: there are indications of spoofers in Kattegatt (+500 km from closest Russian territory) and the spoofers in south Baltic Sea appear to be moving.

This of course lends credence to the spoofers being on ships operating in Nordic waters.
GNSS Spoofing reaches Kattegat

I have been working to identify the source of spoofing in the Baltic and have found a useful way of measuring disruption at sea level.

This work can advantageously be seen together with the recent work from @auonsson.bsky.social, @giammaiot.bsky.social et al.
The Kaliningrad Spoofer goes to Sea
Between June 13th and 15th, 2025, the intensity of GNSS spoofing in the Baltic — and, as we’ll see, the Kattegat — surged dramatically. This uptick didn’t go unnoticed: authorities issued alerts and a...

Time to break out the VOIP spoofers all the car warranty and FBI scammers use.

The report says that the spoofers are installed in Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Smolensk and Rostov.

European aviation authorities have issued warnings to pilots and urged airlines to tighten security measures.

✈️🚫 About 123,000 flights encountered GPS problems over Europe in the first four months of 2025, - SVT

Aircraft from 365 airlines were affected by the interference. The disruptions are the result of Russian spoofers. Their work also leads to navigation systems to fail.

One of the Russian GPS spoofers around St Petersburg sports what looks like an aim function.

There is a realistic possibility this has been used to drive Ukrainian attack drones into NATO territory.

So far, I only have two anecdotes to show for it, data collection ongoing.

Just to let you know, these Irish-named spoofers are seen as absolute gowls here in Ireland.

Reminder to use payphones or phone spoofers etc. Do not do this from your mobile.

Someone is running a circle spoofer pointing to Null Island (lat 0°, lon 0°). Circle spoofers were first documented in China (Shanghai iirc?), later by me and @giammaiot.bsky.social in Mersin, Turkey.

This one discovered by @claudialanz.bsky.social

The tracks of those ships ought to show origin.

Activity of St Petersburg area spoofers last 48 hours as seen via ship data (AIS).

Method not perfect, misses a lot of events and includes a few that aint spoofing. Very usable for timing though.

- Hello, is it spoof office?

- Da.

- You open Saturday morning?

- Da, 50/50 chance.

The Russian spoofers of Baltic Sea differ in many ways and I am exploring. This is one way of illustrating when they run.

Experts: “How did the spoofers manage to login?”

R: “Wat?”

I feel I have left GPS-jamming to its own devices a bit too much, there seems to be much new stuff going on from the Kaliningrad and St Petersburg (and shipbased?) jam-spoofers.

Anyway, here a peculiar anecdote in lieu of science: a China Cargo flight seem to have forgotten to reset their nav-gear.

Closer example of the different nature of the spoofers, aiming to drive home the points in OP.

Obviously there is some more to the conclusions, like MMSI count, timelines etc not presented. Alas, those will have to wait for another post.

The Russian Baltic Sea spoofers are off at the moment, but there is a good chance they will turn on any moment.

I made an 'On?' sensor and last 4 Saturdays the large Kaliningrad spoofer and the Primorsk one have been on about 50% of the time.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

WE HAVE L-BAND JAMMERS/SPOOFERS FOR A REASON.

They're ridiculously important for a number of reasons.
Liz Warren and Ro Khanna are gonna introduce the "NO WAY Act" (Navigation On Worldwide Always for You) that bans DoD from jamming GPS anywhere

Spend the day making some technical analysis of the Russian GNSS-spoofers in the Gulf of Finland.

Maybe you find that interesting as well?

We beat Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate in the QF of the CL in 2025, in case anyone has forgotten.

Sometimes trajectory can turn your head, and ours is much more genuine than any of the spoofers and financial dopers in the Premier League.

It's mad that once you have a degree you realise that most people who present themselves as infallible experts on a topic just because they have one degree in it are massive spoofers
