LLM's do for creating formulaic art & fiction what nuclear weapons did for war. Thousands of years of hard work to create stuff that's more standardised and optimised until you get to the point where it stops being worthwhile to use it at all and becomes more of a deterrant.

Surabhi Mahajan, Executive Director at JP Morgan Chase, on cutting incident triage time from hours to minutes with a standardised multi-cloud trace ID:

Standardizing a trace ID across GCP, AWS, and on-prem became the fix for multi-cloud incident triage.

Ten thousand standardised antibodies is not something a company builds in a funding round. It is a cohort, and a cohort is the most durable asset in applied AI. But the dataset is the second-hardest part.

🧬3D bioprinting is opening new possibilities for personalised regenerative medicine, but it also creates new regulatory challenges.

Check the latest STRONG-UR report, which explores these challenges 👉

STRONG-UR is navigating the regulatory challenges of 3D bioprinting - STRONG-UR
What happens when a medical treatment is no longer a standardised product, but is created for an individual patient — using living cells, biomaterials and a 3D printer, directly in the operating room?...

inconsistent network of aging turnpike signs. The council commissioned 643 standardised milestones in 1892. While stonemasons G & F Stead carved the stone backing columns, the signature cast-iron plates were subcontracted to ironfounders Henry Brayshaw and John Booth of Liversedge.

this when standardised and sold as occupational safety equipment will make going and working outside much safer too (you only really need like 30W of effective cooling to unlock actual physical work even in very hot and humid environments), an example of such stuff is earplugs or air filters

Baffling isn't it?

She's a snark scatter gun, and people love her when she's snarking on the Nasty Men but then she snarks at something else and they remember that, well, she's Like That

And tailored made to measure vs standardised sizing seems to confuse far too many

via LNER. I think if it was a more fair and standardised system, then it would look like that GBR is for the people. Then there is the rental of rolling stock. That also needs to be, somehow, brought back into the public ownership. Maintenance, example the new Transpennine trains in 2034 are

The Mini Disc emoji exists because Japanese mobile carriers in the late 90s created their own emojis and Mini Disc was super popular in Japan, later when the unicode 6.0 standard for emojis was created in 2010 there was a no deleting policy that caused some unusual emoji to become standardised

The USA uses the measurement that the UK stopped using in the 1820's when it standardised its weights and measurements.
The USA is the only country on the planet to still use these measurements as Liberia and Myanmar are transitioning to metric.
This is of course 'American Exceptionalism'.

Oh right I forgot about those, it's been so long since I've seen them around (over here most cartons have been standardised with a twist or pop cap of some kind)

I'm still looking for a *good* home automation platform, to be honest. HA is wondrous but it's also not entirely reliable.

But what we need is something solid and standardised. Like KNX but actually not completely impossible to work with as an owner.

So, interested in developments.

That sounds like the opposite of efficiency - if you give everyone Jira, that creates a standardised workflow that anyone can then plug into. If you've got a load of personalised tools, that creates problems as soon as people leave, and issues onboarding new staff

An equity index future is a standardised, exchange-traded agreement based on the value of an index at a set date. It is settled in cash, not in shares. CME's E-mini S&P 500 contract is worth $50 per index point and trades almost around the clock on Globex.

After a day of talking semantics and data models and the way that every org does things too differently for any of this to be standardised, I find myself wondering “do ontologies replicate philology”
