The EU now requires all Mobile Phones to be sold with easily replaceable and standardised batteries, as they used to be.

From 2027 they all will be again, in Europe.

God, if this ain’t the entire truth. Standardised tests measure one (1) thing, and that’s how good you are at playing the standardised test game. and once you realise that solving a Rubik’s cube is just a party trick, if you see someone bragging about it like it makes them better… it’s gross
Some of us are very good at figuring out how standardized tests work. Most of the time, we get grouped together. That's when some of us realize 1) it's just a neat trick, and 2) avoid the ones who don't have that realization.

And you barely even scratched the surface!! Just that they platform transphobes not even mentioning they standardised calling us slurs
I’m told my acceptance speech upset some of the BBC journalists who were in the room.

I said what I said and it’s the truth 🤷‍♀️
I'm honoured to get the Amnesty Award, but honestly this was a group effort. Thanks to the crew, fact-checkers, lawyers, journalists, and the team at Nebula who helped bring this scandal to light. And thanks to @jessothomson.co.uk for collecting the award on my behalf!

Here’s my acceptance speech:

Had an intriguing editorial discussion recently: how did people in the past talk about 'minutes' when they didn't have watches or standardised times? How does that affect your thinking?

Come down an Elizabethan/Jacobean rabbit hole with me.

Anything that can be standardised, should be standardised. One type. Take away tubs, lightbulbs, doors, windows, tyres, wheels. You get the gist.

Is perceptual novelty important in your research? We created, standardised, and validated a database of truly novel perceptual stimuli (matched to BOSS objects on size, contrast, luminance & colourfulness) so you don't have to! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

It's easy to discount a lot of Tesla's terrible design choices as funny examples of Musk's idiocy, but there is a reason why cars have standardised gear shifting and mechanical door releases. Every Tesla like this should be pulled from the road permanently
If I had run a thought experiment on “what are the characteristics that would make someone’s accidental, preventable death a national news story with real policy consequences?”, Angelo Chao would be the answer.

How is there not a national recall of all Teslas? The doors don’t open in an emergency!
This story is horrifying — after making a mistake with Tesla’s awkward gearshift, Angela Chao found herself sinking into a pond. Emergency services could not break into the Tesla because of the glass used in the cars. Chao died.

ITC Willow Typeface. Tony Forster. 1990.

Possibly one of the most influential uses of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's letterforms; it adapted and standardised numerous hand-lettered sources for the digital age.

NB: Mackintosh never actually designed a 'font'.

I've seen it spelled "boafin'" as well, if that helps with pronunciation. My only beef with Scots leid is that there's no standardised spellings.

It has 50 standardised housing designs that builders will use to streamline approvals, cut through red tape, and get millions more homes built, faster. #cdnpoli

The true intelligence test consists of a single question, which is "Do you think intelligence can be geniunely quantified in a standardised test?"

Reposted & recoloured.

I kind of like how the joints in the legs and arms in this design don't have the usual overlapped plates (torso too); it's more streamlined and easier to draw ( ¬ᴗ¬)

Not 100% sure on making it a standardised feature though.
