after watching WTH Happened by Trek Culture for What Is Startfleet? I definitely have some different thoughts about that episode. I like the storyline about the animal being used as a weapon. Like Ellie, that made me feel. But the whole documentary thing I hate #StarTrekSNW

Aw yeah, the TNG episode where Picard qnd Wesley's shuttlecraft crashes on the way to Startfleet Academy is playing on Pluto right now. They gave Wesley SUCH a good temporary send-off, and it really feels like the DS9 writers room learned from Wesley's growing pains to refine Nog's story.

I do hope that at some point Startfleet Academy addresses whatever catastrophic event in the past lead to there being basically no Asian humans anywhere to be seen.

I like that this affirms my suspicion that everyone hates Startfleet JAG as an authoritarian bunch of jackasses making a mockery of justice and the federation ideals.

Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks are very good an deserve a watch.
Startfleet Academy, new show, has some great characters and good episodes but it's (for me) ruined by a political message that boils down to "The federation is just space USA and space USA is good because they want to be."

I love all Trek but something was lost when they decided orders were optional.
The rot goes all the way back to Insurrection, in which the Enterprise crew revolt against the Federation spreading a life-saving medical advance so that…Picard’s girlfriend of the week can continue to sit on her butt doing very little?

Spock also suggested Startfleet "Go to Hell!" at the end of 6. If they are not Canon then TNG and everything else does not exist. Now Nu-Trek breaks canon but we don't really care as most of it's crap. As for not officially Canon (Novels and Comics and that's it)

I'm really pleased that (so far) they haven't gone Buffy/Wednesday but at Startfleet Academy and centred on the relationships between the characters. Also, choosing this time period makes it part of the ongoing timeline of the show rather than stuck in the past.

The more I think about this the more that 31st century startfleet officers might be trained on a form of federation martial arts that is an amalgam of other culture's martial arts from a thousand years ago of galactic history-- we're at Star Wars level of narrative timescale now
I have a lil headcanon the Klingons erased themselves from existence during the time wars but let's assume some form of martial arts exists in the 31st century, a derivative of galactic cultures yeah I bet Adm Vance knows his shit

Definitely would’ve been nice for them to be scrappier and less structured. But at a certain point, we get to that “is Starfleet holding us back” conundrum.
