Just saw a skeet on mantis shrimps...so now I gotta post one, those are the rules. And who doesn't love Stomatopoda? Ciliated mantis shrimp (Pseudosquilla ciliata), this is a spearer not a smasher, in any case keep your fingers away! :) Ulua Beach, Maui. 📷🌿🐙🦑
The off-axis ommatidia are scattering incident light from your point of view.
The 'pseudopupil' spot can be used to "map" the axes of ommatidia in the eye: the ones that are 'black' face the camera.
This is visible in the mantis shrimp (Order Stomatopoda) as 3 distinct zones.

👾🌊 Sea Creature my wife and I came across today in North Myrtle Beach. It was also recently seen in NMB & in local media today. It is a Stomatopoda, or mantis shrimp. While in South Carolina, it's rare to see them in shallows. This one was alive & well and headed out to sea after I captured my pic.
