The Mantis Shrimp: The Most Violent Predator in the Ocean
A peacock mantis shrimp is about the size of a cigar. It lives in a burrow on a coral reef, eats crabs and snails, and has been known to break aquarium glass. That last part is not an exaggeration. Researchers who keep them in captivity use special reinforced tanks, because a standard glass wall is not a serious obstacle to an animal that hits things for a living. The mantis shrimp is not actually a shrimp. It belongs to an ancient order called Stomatopoda, which split from other crustaceans roughly 400 million years ago.

名の由来
サスタカン:刺す+手掌多汗症。モデルのサシガメが刺すし、獲物を捕まえる手がベトついてる種がいることから
カスクドン:カスクードを捻った。プレコの仲間を現地でカスクードと呼ぶらしい
ペドカスマ:ped(ラテン語で足)+chasma(ギリシャ語で大きく開いた口)。シャコの含まれる口脚目Stomatopodaを少し捻った

他も学名やその和訳由来が多い

The off-axis ommatidia are scattering incident light from your point of view.

The 'pseudopupil' spot can be used to "map" the axes of ommatidia in the eye: the ones that are 'black' face the camera.

This is visible in the mantis shrimp (Order Stomatopoda) as 3 distinct zones.

Il faut des aquariums spéciaux, sinon elles pètent les vitres. Les gens qui les pêchent se font souvent amputer des doigts.

Elles ont la meilleure vison du monde animal, et de beaucoup.

Squilla (Shrimp)
Squilla: Morphology, Classification, Habitat, and Ecological Role of the Mantis Shrimp Squilla is a genus of mantis shrimps belonging to the family Squillidae within the order Stomatopoda. Mantis shrimps are carnivorous marine crustaceans known for their powerful raptorial appendages used for hunting prey. Squilla species, such as Squilla mantis, are notable for their spear-like forelimbs, which they use to stab and capture soft-bodied prey.
