Today I actually have a few windows open (i.e. the few that have screens...don't get me started on the cost of custom size screens...)

Back to rain come Sat - but we'll enjoy this while it lasts! #birds #becurious

When you're Lord of the Stoneflies (Pteronarcys californica) you can perch on Poison Oak (Toxicodendron diversilobum) if you damn well please!

"I DARE you to touch me!"

With females topping out at 3" Salmonflies are the largest NA stoneflies! (skeet deleted/corrected/reskeeted) #inverts

Winter stoneflies (Plecoptera: Taeniopterygidae) don’t need warm, sunny days to be active. These cold-adapted insects are at their peak from January to April. Their aquatic naiads thrive in cold, oxygen-rich winter water before molting into flying adults to mate. Blissfield Michigan, 27 Feb 2016.

Spotted what I think are Black Stoneflies (Austroperla cyrene) at the Rob Roy Glacier Track, Wanaka, New Zealand on 1 Jan 2026. They were moving on rocks near a stream.
