How much input I've had on story has ranged from pitching an entire narrative from a "we want a book about X and Y" topline all the way to writing from a detailed bullet-by-bullet outline.

the phrase "x is haunting the narrative" means, as far as i can tell, x either happens or does not happen at some point in or outside the story

Big things coming soon. This story is about to begin, the legend of Lawrence. Everything is going to make sense soon. The story of a bluesky goon.

"The Blue Fighter" demonstrates none of these problems. The narrative is clear and straightforward. No bizarre nonsense metaphors. The quoted article itself links a previous story by the author which it praises. It's a perfectly decent story, the kind of thing you'd see published in any magazine.

a murder mystery roguelike where the narrative is procedurally story sifted and permadeath that rerolls the narrative

America absolutely loves a comeback story.

Richard Nixon but Democrat is a hell of a narrative.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Comic Artist: That's a Timeskip. It's a narrative device that fast forwards through a character's story to continue or begin an arc at plot relevant points in the timeline.
Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume?

Illustrator: That’s called negative space. It gives the composition some breathing room and draws focus onto the parts of the image that are important to the idea that is being conveyed.
Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume?

Early film theorist: "These two selves exist asymptotically relative to each other and represent both an idealized fiction that has never existed and a mundane present that we are all too painfully aware of"

killing off characters like this over and over again is the narrative equivalent of jumpscares in horror. overdone, and lazy writing to try and elicit an emotional response you didn't invest enough story to actually earn.

The reason I post about Council dynamics/explain how policy moves through the building and what the votes are is to inform the public. I did it before I was in office, and I have to do it now because I can’t call up a paper and ask them to print a story with my narrative the way my colleagues can

I have to share my own perspective and story with the tools I have. The frustration that I have my own platform really freaks everybody accustomed to controlling the narrative out. But the public deserves to know our votes. They should know when a candidate flip flops on an answer before they vote.

reminds me of this violin plot which shows the same kind of takeaway but in reverse: arxiv.org/pdf/2604.03136

Today: Odin Does Odin Things (temp title, don't know the card name yet) for MTG: Darkhold Destiny
AD: Merideth Mulroney
This was such a cool assignment! Without going into story spoilers, this is about Odin having Plot Relevant Visions. Can you piece together the narrative?

There needs to be narrative logic on how "mean" a story and characters can be and the purpose of it, otherwise you could end up with a Bendy

This is the type of work I ask *as a community manager* to game dev teams.

Often it's dismissed and put at the very bottom of their priorities, ie. never to be done, unless I do it myself.
I am not narrative.

Narrative work like this is fun! It begins so much life to your story, and beyond!
The Cartoon Network leak revealed that the team actually wrote fake interviews for the Powerpuff Girls in-house so that the writers could understand them better and honestly this is incredibly useful for learning how to characterize your characters holy shit

tbf i'm just gonna say it the story team just reeks of Liberal Zionism (vaguely progressive through symbolic concessions while supporting colonialism) i legit think the Haranir reveal and Zul'jan's treatment are the peak of that narrative

Yeeeesh

Hope it leads to some internal change and accountability to ALL leadership and devs responsible for letting the story become what it’s become

The narrative team embarrassing the rest of the wow team every patch really must suck for the devs working hard in the crunch to ship the game

Fox News, meanwhile, is asking the important questions about why the Talarico campaign was so slow to respond to the 100% bullshit story that was fabricated by non-journalists randos.

We’re hitting the reset button on Ash’s story because we’re going to be working on planning out an entire narrative to hopefully make the Ash series worth sinking your teeth into.

For now, here’s the full logo design.
