#Sciart #Paleoart The Jinju Formation (112~106 Ma) is a stratigraphic unit with the most abundant fossil record in Cretaceous Korea. Fossils including insects, spiders, isopods, fishes, plants, and trackways of extremely diverse vertebrates are known from this stratigraphic unit.

New paper! The 1st publication from our NSF grant investigating local to global biodiversity patterns in marine invertebrates across the O-S boundary is out! Here, we describe a new crinoid from Anticosti Island & use Bayesian tip-dating approaches to quantify uncertainty in its stratigraphic age 🧪
Phylogenetic position and stratigraphic uncertainty of a new flexible crinoid from the Ordovician–Silurian boundary of Anticosti Island (Québec, Canada) | Journal of Paleontology | Cambridge Core

I have a whole bit about this in my chapter on the Anthropocene in Planet Work ... also, a lot about fire. Necromancy. And stratigraphic nomenclature.
Raqefet Cave in Israel was a sacred burial site for the hunter-gatherer culture known as the 'Natufians' around 13,000 years ago.

More recently, we've also discovered here the earliest evidence of BEER BREWING from grains.

Even more remarkable because these people HADN'T INVENTED AGRICULTURE YET.
Traces of 13,000-Year-Old Beer Found in Israel
According to the authors of a new study, the discovery marks the earliest-known evidence of beer production among ancient peoples

Photo of the stratigraphic staircase at Greenhead Moss in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire. The stairs allow access to and from the remains of a raised peat bog after open-cast mining. The numbers on the risers indicate the age of the peat at the corresponding depth.
