Time to share this one again, from 2021.
One of my faves.
Spotted pardalotes collecting nesting material at Spring Gully Conservation Park, SA. Male (L) with white spots and female with yellow spots. Tree is a red stringybark. Sadly, these trees have been hit hard by the current drought.

A female spotted pardalote collecting nesting material from a red stringybark. Spring Gully Conservation Park was set aside to conserve the westernmost population of this tree. This park is the only reserve in South Australia to contain this particular tree species.

Bushfire recovery 6 months later. While the fire decimated the undergrowth, many of the old stringybark trees survived and are beginning to start epicormic growth.

Someone broke into our garage last night and must have been hella disappointed to discover half a tonne of stringybark and peppermint wood instead of shelves of power tools 😑😑😑

The legs are oak and I’m not 100% sure what the other bit is - it’s recycled decking from an old deck so some sort of tropical hardwood, could be Darwin stringybark I think (eucalyptus tetradonta)

I’ve tried teaching myself to identify trees with confidence from pictures and descriptions, but the going is slow. Would joining a bushwalking group lead to some beneficial in-field guidance in matters botanical?

Gunga, 2022 Earth pigments on stringybark by Muluymuluy Wirrpanda (Yolŋu) Painted with natural earth pigments on stringybark, Gunga carries the intricate linework and sacred patterning central to Yolŋu visual language. The rhythmic cross-hatching and flowing forms incorporates ancestral knowledge.

Today we visited the Fossil Giant, in the shadows of Mt Wellington. This giant stringybark grows on sandstone rock and fossilised lace corals and brachiopods from 250m years ago. Glorious to see. #Hobart #Trees
