In my Berlin years, I volunteered translating and subediting subtitles of video interviews with aging WW2 partisans, for the European Resistance Archive. It was a gift. I learned so much from their stories, the risks they took, the infrastructure they created. It’s doable shit.

I daresay LLMs could be used for passable subediting of text, and almost certainly already are, thereby depriving humans of the training that was essential to me in learning how to get sentences grammatical, clear, concise, & elegant. (Yeah right, so what happened, but that's another story I guess.)

When I'm in my subediting role I often delete/replace these words. They rarely sound good in any sentence relating to cars.

Is anyone else noticing just how poor the @theguardian.com @australia.theguardian.com subediting has become? Perilously low quality – the worst in its proud history. Spelling errors, rogue punctuation, sentences that grammar forgot. So depressing.
