It might not require a hyper detailed set that transforms for each act, 5-10 supernumeraries fleshing out the world, and an elaborate soundscape, but it requires *something* on the director’s part that is supplementing the storytelling and making clear what is going on under the surface.

Like, i'm not saying she's not conservative, but she's definitely not a frothing-at-the-mouth reactionary, and the same is true of a lot of numeraries. Supernumeraries, the married ones who are more in charge of things, are all fashy shitheads though.

ROH Walkure: Act 3 once supernumeraries have gone (& ignoring Erda hearing stuff she’s not supposed to know) is the best bit of directing I’ve seen from Kosky - Powerful & moving. More of that restraint & character focus needed elsewhere esp in messy Recognition scene. Erda should be completely cut.
