This is the spindle from my previous post, in action. The cap had a spiral groove which the yarn slips into, making a half hitch unnecessary. Traditionally, this type of spindle was used with a distaff and a short suspension technique and was quite a productive method of spinning.

I've been playing with #spindle spinning the past week or so and having fun mixing colors in fauxlags, teasing out fiber with my bare hands (sounds very butch, no?)

The latest additions to my spindle collection are these replica French spindles by Polish wood turner Andrzej Naczynski. Andrzej’s work is fantastic quality and these spindles are a delight to use.

All have narrow tips with a spiral groove carved into them, which the spindle hangs from when spinning without the need for a half hitch knot to prevent it falling.

Got some spinning inspiration (cleaning can do that, as can friends getting into it)

While my partner and I finally got my electric spinner updated today, my current spins are all spindle spun on drop and support spindles.

My plan for TdF is to spin in solidarity, rather than be super strict about it.

I live bouncing between various spindles. I'm currently enjoying a few low-whorl varieties.

Bright pink and purple blended fauxlags bing spun on a hi-lo spindle, currently in the low whorl position Light and dark streaks in wool top dyed purple resting in a bag with a low-whorl spindle on top Reacquainting myself with my very first spindle, also low whorl, with a hook carved into the shaft similar in shape to some crochet hooks. The carved hook part is split so the yarn is always centered and does not require a half hitch.
