I have for more than a decade now, have referred to corndogs as "phallic meat dipped in sweetbread" with friends and family.

“Give them sweetbread and circuses.”
RFK Jr. suggests Americans can more easily afford groceries if they start eating liver instead of beef:

"Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. You can buy liver or the cheap cuts."

“RFK Jr. says Americans should eat sweetbreads to save money. Great idea, Bobby. The people get the sweetbreads. It’s actually not bread. I’ve heard it’s delicious. I wouldn’t know. I’m having a beautiful tomahawk steak. Huge. The biggest. Sweetbread. That’s how you make America healthy again.”

I'm not sure people in the US really say "sweetbread" much at all, but in this case, I think she's actually just talking about cakes and cupcakes mostly! 😂 (Platter has a bunch of Hostess classics on it!)

Who decided to name cooked pancreas as "sweetbread"? Every time I hear it I have to remember it's an internal organ and not like, a concha

Each of these names is a double misnomer – two-part names in which neither word accurately describes the thing being named.

ENGLISH HORN, GRAPE-NUTS, MANTIS SHRIMP, SWEETBREAD

(From yesterday's NYT Connections puzzle.)

October 15, 2026 at 7:37 PM

I've had sweetbread too. I've baked it. And I've never heard of it being such odd things. Usually it's just... sweet bread.

Regardless, I now know. I was more just flabbergasted.

okay actually Wikipedia says I was right to begin with
October 16, 2026 at 2:32 AM
huh! i... don't think i've ever heard "sweetbread" used to describe actual bread before. language is wild. also ur good i just got in my own head about you having a question and me expecting myself to be able to. intuit/predict what that question was.
October 16, 2026 at 5:02 AM
are you just expressing shock right now or is there something you dont understand? because if its the latter i. dont know what it is. unless its "what is sweetbread" in which case the answer is "a weird term for organ meat, often the thymus or pancreas, but sometimes other glands," per wikipedia.
