Last weekend: the incredible memorials to members of the Fettiplace family in Swinbrook.
a view down a small church towards the altar, with white or pale stone everywhere and dark wooden pews a memorial to three guys who are carved of pale stone lying on their sides in armour with one leg folded up, it's very posed a memorial to three other men who are also lying on their sides in armour, in a sort of side plank, with very snatched waists view of the two sets of memorials standing a little ways back, so you can see how they're in the head of the church

Back to some retirement outings. Today the sun shone at the ruins of Minster Lovell Manor, followed by Swinbrook Church and a walk to Asthall, home of the Mitford sisters.

Swinbrook church, the Fettiplace family funerary monuments and fifteenth century misericords
The Tudor Fettiplaces. Three rather stiff and stylised recumbent figures carved in pale stone stacked one on top of thr other and surrounded by a grand stone arch The three Jacobean Fettiplace, arranged in a stack like their Tudor relatives, but each recumbent figure looks more lifelike, relaxed and elegant Two mediaeval wooden misericords. One ifeatures a very ugly figure with arms outstretched, the other has a grumpy looking person gripping a long stick. Between them is a small scared looking figure with arms hanging down

St Mary’s Swinbrook and the famous Fettiplace monuments. Several of the Mitford family are buried in the churchyard. Lord Redesdale moved his family from Asthall Manor in the ‘20s. Diana Mitford 1910-2003 married Oswald Mosley leader of British Union of Fascists
