Them: One action per panel

Me: No no no, you don’t understand. It’s a “synoptic narrative”… I read about it on Bluesky.
Another trick was to compress multiple moments of a narrative into a single image

The earliest image of the Cyclops in Greek art compresses: 1) the wine the cyclops drank to pass out, and 2) the later blinding

This is called a synoptic narrative, and the Greeks loved it for mythical scenes

This would actually be a fun exercise for a synoptic meteorology class — give a blank topographic global map, and have students label multiple locations they expect to be the snowiest on average & explain why from a synoptic-dynamic-global climatology perspective.

I have a theory that a lot of business cosplay, like ROI, is in part about (synoptic) legibility, because starting in the 1980s we decided that "business" is the generalist function that should be in charge of everything.
You cannot run a museum like a business. Opening a museum is a quick way to lose a lot of money; but it's a great way to invest in scientific research and education in your community.

But as long as museums, desperate for money and attendance, keep cosplaying as businesses, we'll lose more of them.

Important synoptic Mauology here 👇
After careful scrutiny of the four different versions of @sorenmau.bsky.social’s “Mute Compulsion,” i.e., the original SDU-thesis, as well as the Danish, German, and English versions, the verdict is in. The Danish version is by far the superior one. Everyone go learn Danish now.

This is like my third child. I’ve labored over this for awhile. But I really do think this will help us and help improve our forecasting and response capabilities. You can view some of the initial data (it will all remain public) here: viewer.synopticdata.com/map/data/now...

Circe's story is frequently depicted in such a synoptic manner with a fun combo of half-humans and half-pigs. Look at the multiple narratives you can pick out in this one image!

Given the visceral nature of Nolan's Circe scene, I really wonder if ancient art inspired him here

Why is it so hard to run the BBC? Is impartiality possible? Is it even what polarised viewers even want?
