Can we please stop framing abysmal systemic failure as a lifestyle choice?
Tiny homes could fix the housing squeeze, if we can just find a place to park them

The size of a caravan or shed, these diminutive dwellings could be the answer to Gen Z’s dreams, provided planning laws and political parties get on board

Great analogy! Wife and I were just talking about that the other day - how often all the monstrously hard work by others makes many systemic problems seem to "disappear."

"Building a replacement in the medium term is beyond the capabilities of the Russian defence budget and industry."

Exactly.

Individualism isn’t going to fix this. It’s a systemic problem. (For small business owners, anyway. It’s a massive systemic advantage for large corporations.)

While the linguists are here, my field of application is systemic functional linguistics, which i'd love to discuss. I have multiple projects underway using principles from it, and augmentative communication work draws from it heavily.

if you don't mention trans men when talking about people who need access to abortion or similar reproductive healthcare you are contributing to a systemic erasure of people like me that gets us abused and killed by our medical system.

It’s such a systemic problem with journalism, getting exploited for free PR (at best) or spreading deceitful propaganda, by being dutiful stenographers for the rich and famous. Total opposite of “holding power to account”.

You’re doing the classic “personal racism vs systemic racism” bit. Although let’s be honest, a lot of those white folks were. The white people who left could get loans to move into nicer areas - non-whites could not. Systemic racism.

My hot take:

I don't think any result changes anything about the long-term questions for Canada.

The new Knesset will have a 67 vs 53 majority against Netanyahu.
That's a 56% majority. In most parliamentary democracies, the opposition would die for such results.
Coalition making is difficult? Sure.
But don't normalise Israel's systemic racism. It's a defeat for Netanyahu.

Even in the absence of systemic anti-AI measures, wild speculation about what artists are or aren't using AI has already been weaponized against independent artists (especially marginalized ones, of course).
