That is effectively what I take liberation theologians to have been doing since the late 60s, though sadly it's largely out of print and out of mind for a lot of contemporary theology. Dussel in Latin America, Balasuriya in Asia, Ela in Africa, etc. Also this from Budde:

The only reason the Piker story has any legs is because consultants/podcasters/streamers/corporate press journos keep the story alive to get traffic/money. Very few in the Dem base have heard of Piker, fewer yet know what he may or may not have said, and less than 0.0001% could ID him in a lineup.
