It’s time to fill up those kegs! Two years after deciding to serve the majority of our tasting room samples at #TablasCreek from kegs, we’re more convinced than ever that it was the right choice. This week we kegged up Vermentino, Patelin de Tablas Rosé, and Dianthus Rosé.

A why-we-love-kegs 🧵 1/

Ever wondered about why different grapevines are pruned in different shapes? Austin Collins just published a new #TablasCreek blog where he dives into how we choose the pruning style to match different grapes, different blocks, and different microclimates. tablascreek.typepad.com/tablas/2025/...

I feel like if you were to draw the family tree of sommeliers and wine educators in America, the biggest branch would lead back to Kevin Zraly. I am so excited to have him join me for my #TablasCreek Instagram Live conversation this week. Join us Wednesday at noon Pacific!

A new technique for frost protection? A fashion statement for the vines? A spider infestation? Nope... just what our sheep left behind in the vineyard as they rub against the vines. This is wool from our #TablasCreek flock of hair sheep. What is a hair sheep? And why do we use them? A 🧵. 1/3

The November color palette in Paso Robles is beautiful. Autumn yellows, oranges, and browns in the vineyard, low sun angles, clouds. I feel like half the sunset photos in our archives at #TablasCreek are from this month. These were from last night.

Does this look like a winter scene from a year where we’re nearly 8” of rain behind where we’d expect to be in mid-January? And yet, we are. In a new #TablasCreek blog, I unpack the contradictions in what we’re seeing and try to put this winter so far into context. This 🧵 has some take-homes. 1/

I've been answering a lot of questions recently about dry farming. For this week's #PracticalWineAdvice thread, a dive into how grapevines -- which evolved to thrive in hot, dry climates -- came to be so widely irrigated, and why at #TablasCreek we feel there is so much to learn from the past. 1/

Now this is a storm! We’re at nearly 4” out at #TablasCreek and there’s more to come. No damage and this is going to be a great thing for later in the growing season. This video is of Santa Rita Creek just down the hill from our house.

The primary concern is dilution. We conducted an experiment at #TablasCreek, mimicking what we typically see at tastings where a taster rinses a glass, swirls and dumps. Then, we measured the difference in the wine's alcohol levels. The resulting 1oz pour was diluted from 13.5% alcohol to 12.6%. 2/

I am so looking forward to my #TablasCreek Instagram Live guest this week. It’s Louis Barruol, the 18th(!)-generation proprietor of Chateau de St. Cosme in Gigondas. Louis is a pioneer of organic farming, one of the driving forces behind the new Gigondas Blanc, and a #wine dynamo. Join us Wednesday!

One of my favorite things we launched last year at #TablasCreek was a new social media series we called #OurSLOCounty. Each month, we asked a member of the Tablas team to share three SLO County wineries, one restaurant, and one activity they love. We continue with Logistics Manager Eddie Garcia. 1/5

A producer like #TablasCreek cannot sell directly to restaurants and retailers in most states. So, our success is dependent upon distributors. Many of our distributors get the majority of their business from European wines. For those distributors, the proposed tariffs amount to a death sentence. 2/

If you're looking for an update on the state of play and the impacts of #tariffs on #wine, I hope you'll join me for my #TablasCreek Instagram Live conversation tomorrow at noon Pacific. My guest is Harmon Skurnik, President of Skurnik Wines and a Director at the US Wine Trade Alliance.

Last year I started thinking differently about one of the ways that we use social media at #TablasCreek.

What spurred it was my own effort to get out and see more live music now that our kids are getting older and are mobile on their own or out of the house. A quick 🧵 1/4
The #TablasCreek 2025 tour is getting started! I’ll be in Sacramento tonight with plenty more stops coming up in places like Phoenix, San Francisco, Austin, Santa Monica, La Jolla, and Miramar Beach, FL. Here’s what we have on the books. More is being added weekly, so check tablascreek.com/events

One of my favorite #TablasCreek blogs to write and publish each year is my #Thanksgiving #wine pairing blog, where I ask members of our team what they'll be drinking with their meals. If you're not in the wine business, you might think that they'd be planning to drink our wines, but mostly not. 1/3
What the Tablas Creek team will be drinking with our Thanksgivings in 2024
Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. It's brings extended family together for a day of cooking, eating, and reflecting on what we're grateful for. It's still largely uncommerciali...

From time to time we revisit the mid-2000s experiments we did at #TablasCreek bottling the same wines in cork and screwcap and I’d tend to agree that for very long aging on reds screwcap is probably superior. But there’s a stage in the middle where we usually prefer cork. I dove in on our blog.
Bottle Variation, Very Old Wines and the Cork/Screwcap Dilemma
For Christmas dinner this year, we cooked a standing rib roast with Bearnaise sauce, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, and rice. The dinner was wonderful, capped off by an absolutely delicious mature Burgu...

If European wine is targeted in a new round of tariffs, it's very likely that American wine will be on the list of reciprocal targets. Last year at #TablasCreek we invested over $42,000 to grow our sales in our export markets, and saw significant growth. Prospects for 2025? Looking shaky. 5/
