It’s my 9th #WorldCup ancient relic from each country in the World Cup.

It’s COLOMBIA 🇨🇴 This pendant is a great example of the skill of Tairona goldworkers. It may portray a deity, ruler or ritual figure. The figure sports a crocodile snout & seems to swagger confidently, hands on hips.

New research shows that conflict shaped how ancient Tairona communities organized themselves. During tense periods, settlements clustered in strategic locations, strengthening cooperation and defense.

The Ciudad Perdida, or "Lost City", an early medieval settlement founded in 800 CE by the Tairona people . Despite its impressive size - 169 terraces carved into the mountainside - it was not rediscovered until 1972, when looters came across the stairs rising from the jungle floor.

that'a what I thought. Several cultures - the Tairona perhaps first among them - were stone workers who could match India or Egypt. And others took goldsmithing to incredible heights - they had electroplating! mercury-based surface gilding! But glaze, faience, glass never happened here.

Slowly getting everyone moved back into their home biomes after the Hallow/Corruption got unleashed and Connor (the Guide) and Tairona (the Witch Doctor) died!

Gonna have to take down a mech boss to get the Steampunker to get the Clentaminator to clean out the desert biome (cont)

Inspire d by my trip here - I've written a piece about the history (old and new) of Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City of the pre-colombian Tairona people.
