All subsequent illustrations date from Talhoffer himself. Is it possible he knew about some 13th century tradition that he was recording? It's possible! Is it possible that someone pulled a fast one on him, or he made it up to fill out his quartos? *also possible*

fun fact: the long feet on [shepherds], one of the technological peoples in [the coiled sun] are partially based on the insect tarsus, and partially based on long-toed medieval shoes such as poulaines.

Most of my HEMA learnin' is German masters, Lichtenauer, Ringeck, Talhoffer, etc. I've also read Silver and done some Fiore di Liberi. And of course I did Olympic fencing in college. I've studied the singlestick methods of Bartitsu as well.

At first I was like "nah", but after watching it in motion I remember seeing this disarm done a few times by other people during sparring.
