Nu, where else would we do Tashlich?

There are also things where the line is blurry but that are generally accepted, at least in some communities, such as changing the name of a person who is severely ill, kapparot (whether done with a chicken or with money), and tashlich.

Tashlich is a practice of casting away what we seek to recognize, repent for, and reject, while committing ourselves to repairing the harm we’ve done, and the harm we're collectively responsible for. During the period of Teshuvah, we look within as a way to re-commit to being our better selves.

i feel kind of sad that i didn’t get the chance to do tashlich(sp?) this year, since it was such a beautiful experience when i did it last year. i guess no one is stopping me from throwing stuff in the schuylkill but it would feel less sketchy with a group

Together with Adamah ATL and Repair the World Atlanta, we collected 374 pounds of trash during our Reverse Tashlich River Cleanup!

We're grateful for another year of celebrating this innovative Jewish environmental ritual with our community.

And at Oberlin, Oberlin Jews for Palestine hosted evening and morning Rosh Hashanah Torah services, bringing the holiday to a close with a song circle, Tashlich, and the sounding of the shofar.

In Charlotte, people sang songs beneath the trees. In Houston, three generations of families gathered in a local park to cast away that which we must transform. In the Hudson Valley, the community gathered by a local river for Tashlich before sharing a potluck meal together.

It was also simply a beautiful Rosh Hashanah: Kiddush, challah, apples and honey, a giant picnic, then singing our way to the river for Tashlich.

There we sang Min HaMeitzar again and asked what we need to cast away, and what we need to reclaim.

Yesterday, well over 100 of us gathered at Marsha P Johnson State Park for Shofar to Abolish ICE: to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, sound shofar, do Tashlich, build community, and organize.

Thoughts and prayers can be beautiful and powerful. But they are never enough on their own.

We are not people who happen to be Jewish and also happen to fight deportation, occupation, racism, transphobia, war, and injustice.

We do this BECAUSE we are Jewish.

Because when we miss the mark, teshuvah demands that we change course.
