My personal answer to this is that builders need to slow down on innovation for a bit, and focus on security.

Disappointing at a moment when it feels like anything is possible perhaps!

Good morning.

The revaluation of risk across tech is not necessarily about one company’s earnings.

Rather it’s about a shift in the industry’s big players from a capital light, low debt, strong cash flow to a capital intensive, large debt & in some cases negative cash flow model. #Econ #EconSky

This is one of the scenarios I always run by studios asking about whether they should use AI: your generative AI is generating tremendous tech debt at heavily subsidized token costs, and even minor corrections are likely going to burn even more. Can your studio take that risk?
At first it was “how does this new feature work” and developers would be hazy on details. Now it’s “how do *existing* features work ensure compatibility with *new* features?”, or discovering core architectural decisions Claude made 8 months ago just now emerging as problems for future development.

A great way to think about AI code is that we’ve found a way to create tech debt at industrial scale.

‘Anthropic has committed a whopping $895.4B deals that it largely cannot back out of. Its IPO could raise $100B. It is also raising debt financing, including $63B last week. Even so, it has warned that it may need to seek additional financing sooner than anticipated.‘ www.nytimes.com/2026/11/02/t...

what would make llms in software engineering interesting to me is if people wrote code and got yelled at by an llm for writing bad code more instead of just giving your dumbest co-worker a tech debt generation button

And the debt incurred by doing so, like all debts incurred by the industrialized misapplication of this tech, will come due.

Governments around the world are limping under increasing debt burdens. There are three progressively harder ways out: growth, taxation, or debt deflation through inflation. Carbon pricing lead by induced innovation tech policy would serve a clean growth agenda and help us out from under the debt.

Re: Tech stocks fall after earnings.

I've seen this movie before. An early darling filed for bankruptcy. Another's debt is junk. The tech-heavy Kopsi is approaching correction territory. Companies are seeking creative ways to mask their debt obligations.

I sold all my tech holdings two weeks ago.

It's much easier to implement and use AI tools in your tech stack when you're a new company with little tech debt. Much harder to do with companies with lots of tech debt and years to decades of bad data practices. That's what I've seen in my conversations with clients.
