Yup. Auto Trader is full of old Nissan Leaf cars / vans with approx 30 mile range...

Imagine spending £60k on a van to do 50k miles / year, and after a few years it'll only go 60 miles between charges.

I'm not against EVs, I like them.

It's just that the battery tech isn't there with vans yet.

You got the Black Spider Ninjas: the grunts, the claw one, the Onmyojis, the high tech ones with machine guns and rocket launcher. Then you have the Fiends. Van Gelf, Shadow imps, the werewolves, the weird guys with the cannon arm and the chainsaw arm; like I could go on.

Musk will probably pay to have the law up-dated? Musk thinks the requirement aren't necessary, are redundant, in his robot built cars,? Robotics never go awry? Right? Well, maybe once in a while.

Exactly. Furthermore these tech fascists trying to destroy democracy and extract all our money to “go to Mars” will run into a wall of cancer to greet any human colonization efforts in space (Van Allen Belts are our friend). So mRNA research funding is essential even for *their* stated goals.

Van der Poel signals a likely breakaway for Wednesday's stage 17
Mathieu van der Poel is certainly capable of putting in a good time trial, but on Tuesday's stage 16 of the Tour de France he cruised home well down in 96th place, almost six minutes down to winner Remco Evenepoel (for reference, about 20% slower). But it wasn't a bad day for the Alpecin-Premier Tech leader. With the team's sprint stage win ambitions largely foiled for Jasper Philipsen, Van der Poel signaled post-stage that the idea instead is to go all-in on Wednesday's stage 17, a course that looks promising for a breakaway. "It was also a nice time trial, actually something that should suit me, but we decided quite early that we would save for tomorrow and Sunday," he told Dutch _NOS_ television. Van der Poel won stage 9 from a breakaway, but he also suggested that Wednesday could be crucial for Philipsen in his underdog bid to get the green jersey off Lidl-Trek's Mads Pedersen. "It may be the last chance, so we decided to put everything on tomorrow," said Van der Poel, who predicted a vigorous fight for the break. "The first 50 or 60 kilometers in particular will be difficult," he promised.

Bit of a flex from the bold Seán

"152km to go: “Are they trying to make if difficult for Merlier?” asks Sean Kelly on commentary of these early attacks from Van der Poel for Alpecin-Premier Tech."

Already well known for his pure speed, Tim Merlier puts his racecraft and his resolve on display en route to another big win at the Tour de France.
'He improvises': Merlier proves that he's the full package
Gruber Images With only 500 meters to go in stage 8 of the Tour de France, Tim Merlier was still behind a dozen riders as the sprinters barreled towards the Bergerac finish line. Up ahead, superstar leadout man Mathieu van der Poel was hammering away for his Alpecin-Premier Tech teammate Jasper Philipsen. Worse, behind the first seven riders on the road was a gap of about three bike lengths to the clump of riders in which Merlier found himself. His Soudal-Quick Step teammates had worked all day to set him up for this finish, but things had gone awry as he lost ground in the final corner. Merlier would not have been the first sprinter to resign himself to defeat in that moment, with so much ground to cover in so little time. Instead, he went for it anyway. Thirty seconds later, Merlier raised his hands to celebrate his second stage win of this year's Tour, the fifth of his career. "In the last corner I almost crashed," he said afterward. "There was a lot of riders who were passing me, and I was thinking, 'They worked so hard for you. Don't give up.' So I tried to sprint for a top five or something. I didn't know in that moment what was possible, but I was coming in the slipstream and with so much speed. I had such high cadence, I said 'I'll give it a try, and I can pass them, and I can just keep the space until the finish. Nobody else is still fresh, they can't pass me anymore.'" That's exactly what happened, as Merlier kept his cool, followed wheels where he could, closed the gap, and then surged clear of the whole sprint field in the blink of an eye. Runner-up Biniam Girmay (NSN) and third-placed Olav Kooij (Decathlon CMA CGM) were not particularly close in the end. 0:00 /0:19 1× For the second straight day, the 33-year-old Belgian showed off a turn of speed none of his rivals could match. As Soudal-Quick Step sports director Iljo Keisse told _Escape Collective_ after the finish, "In a fair and square sprint, he is the fastest." But this particular win was also a testament to Merlier's skill at navigating traffic in a hectic finale, and his resolve to stay in the fight. ### This post is for subscribers only Become a member to get access to all content Subscribe now

A friend at Uni in the late 80s claimed to have spent the year before working in a detector van.
He said the 'tech' was a big list of addresses of people *with* licenses.
They'd then drive to a street. Look for houses with aerials on the roof and if they weren't on the list go knock on the door.
