My other takeaway from this story is the degree to which Republicans wildly exaggerated their 2024 victory. All winning parties do this, but the degree to which the GOP reframed a narrow victory as a Reagan or FDR-like tectonic shift is remarkable.

"Tectonic" is something that happens extremely slowly. Its use annoys me in this context. See also "sea-change", which is likewise a gradual process. And "quantum leap" which is literally the smallest change that can possibly occur.
