Purple milk-vetch looking very beautiful amongst the birdsfoot trefoil at Teesmouth this week. Also a Euphorbia that is presumably an escapee amongst the dunes - toadflax-like foliage. Cypressae?

Sketches from a visit to Teesmouth National Nature Reserve earlier this week; the highlight was the first singing skylark of the year.
The footpath runs alongside a golf course - the curlews enjoy probing the greens, while short-eared owls hunt in the roughs.

Wildflower sketches from Teesmouth (North Gare) last week - lots of lovely Purple Milk Vetch, and a small clump of tiny, bright blue Early Forget-me-nots in the dunes. Small and hairy or small and shiny seem to be the chosen strategies for coastal plants.

Adorable Shelducklings and other birds from Teesmouth and Seaton Carew last week. I always thought Shelducks got their name because they ate molluscs but I’ve learned that Sheld is an old word meaning variegated. Though they do eat marine snails too.
