#terminally-ill,disabled
A person having experienced something like having a disabled and/or terminally ill relative doesn't mean they will act to help social care. Look at Cameron. If the vision is real, that's a great step forward. But at the moment it's just a speech.

And yet our lawmakers refuse to give those in terminal and incurable agony the possibility of a dignified death. It seems some of us think others, especially the old, poor, disabled and terminally ill, should suffer for existing but have no legal way out.

no no it's actually good to medically assassinate terminally ill and disabled patients because I feel really bad about it

How horrible. MAID should never be suggested or encouraged by a third party. It's totally up to the sick or disabled person. I have health issues and can function to some degree and am happy. I did tell my husband if I was terminally ill and in pain that I'd want MAID.

Did you read the entire thread?

My concern is with the disabled people it’s being pushed on.

People who aren’t dying and need actual treatment.

It’s happened to me. That’s what we’re discussing here. Not terminally ill people who choose it of their own free will (which I support)

Where does it say that the Bill is designed to kill disabled people? If you're terminally ill with 6 months to go then you're included, otherwise not.
September 12, 2026 at 3:08 PM
Because the Bill is assisted dying for those who are terminally ill, with 6 months left to live. When was it ever about disabled people? Terminally ill disabled people, yes, otherwise no.
September 12, 2026 at 3:04 PM
Well maybe concentrate on those suffering a painful death from cancer or extreme conditions such as MND. This Bill is about people who are terminally ill and have 6 months left to live, although it should be up to one year. I'm not sure where killing disabled people came into it but its a myth.

And again, the same argument could be made for terminally ill people and yet it was illegal to suggest it to them.
They only changed the law when disabled people became eligible.

I agree with you completely. I think Canada has done a relatively good job with the terminally ill. Most people I know who’ve had loved ones do MAiD said they felt it was a peaceful experience.

Where we’re failing is in the palliative care and supports for disabled people.
September 12, 2026 at 6:15 AM
A terrible outcome, out of touch with public opinion. Many of the arguments were in bad faith (the bill didn't cover the disabled and palliative care doesn't work for everyone). Meanwhile, the terminally ill are left stranded. If this bill was flawed, fix it instead of throwing it out.

I fully agree, but until we do have a better way, we are stuck with this way, sadly, and so disabled people have to fight to stay alive

None of us want this, we dont want terminally ill to suffer

But we dont want a eugenics programme either

A federal judge on Thursday denied disability rights advocates’ request to block an Illinois law, set to take effect this weekend, that lets terminally ill patients obtain prescription medication to end their lives.
Judge denies bid to block Illinois’ medical aid-in-dying law
The ruling came in a federal lawsuit filed this year by two disabled patients, a doctor and several disability and patients’ rights organizations.

Mine - who is MP for an area with a considerably higher than average number of elderly and disabled people who might be interested, engaged with, and impacted by this very important issue - was, YET AGAIN, dicking around in America and didn't bother voting 👍🏻

How did your MP vote on the reintroduced assisted dying bill?
MPs today voted not to approve the assisted dying bill at its second reading. The bill, which was brought back to the Commons after being blocked in the Lords, would have allowed terminally ill people...
