#terminally-ill,disabled
no no it's actually good to medically assassinate terminally ill and disabled patients because I feel really bad about it

I have a special needs, disabled, terminally ill child. My rage at this moment is beyond comprehension.

Being disabled and caring for a terminally ill parent is really hard.
Some days I feel like I’m drowning.
Today is one of those days.
Not looking for advice, just venting into the universe.

1. see the assisted dying discourse is on day 3, and folk are still insisting that disabled people who criticize/worry about assisted dying programs are "against dignified deaths" for terminally ill patients.
Do you have any fucking idea how often many disabled people have to think about dying?

Is it really not possible to legalize assisted suicide only for terminally ill patients in a way that doesn’t endanger other disabled people from the misapplication for eugenics
November 30, 2024 at 6:54 PM
I despise that lots of non-disabled people believe people with terminal illnesses are just waiting to die.

We should mprove their quality of life, not ushering them to assisted suicide.

The infantalising idea that one can't enjoy their life just because they're terminally ill is abhorrent

This is why assisted dying legislation can only ever exist ethically in a structure that absolutely guarantees that care for disabled and terminally ill folk is free, excellent, and places their loved ones under no financial strain.
Just fyi. On Friday, Lord Falconer, who's shepherding the assisted dying bill through the Lords, admitted that he thought it was fine if someone chose to die because they didn't have enough money for care

If you're left wing and support the principle, I really need you to look at the bill's details

Well, that was a long week. Thanks to those with skin in the game - namely, terminally ill and disabled people - who reported or campaigned. These things are harder when it isn’t abstract. I’m proud a disabled person led The Guardian’s op on the day of the vote. Now for a drink.

while I don't think terminally ill sy is the intended message I think chronically ill and/or disabled sy is really really good. his desire to constantly wander around, not minding if he comes tenth so long as eleven people are competing, his blase attitude about WaC, all point in that direction
March 14, 2025 at 7:37 AM
It’s more “battle” narrative about illness. That chronically / terminally ill and disabled people just need to fight harder, to deserve normal life. That there’s somehow a magical strength that healthy people will never understand in being debilitated by sickness.

Hate that shit.

A disabled MP has dropped his support for the assisted suicide bill, largely because of concerns that “broken” social care and palliative care services could push terminally-ill people into seeking an assisted death.

It is not progressive for a terminally ill person who is wealthy to receive private care while one who is poor is killed by the state

It is not progressive to pass a bill so filled with loopholes it puts learning disabled, mentally ill and poor people at risk
January 18, 2026 at 12:23 PM
a Labour Party which claims that people are faking mental health problems in huge numbers, that the benefit system is too generous, and that the severely disabled—and even terminally ill!—can and *must* work is a cruel, extreme far-right party. and, yeah, a fascist one.

Hopefully this Supreme Court ruling that disabled people don't actually have human rights and aren't actually human will show at least *some* people why, despite wanting terminally ill people to have the right to end their suffering, I oppose any introduction of legalised euthanasia.

I’m terminally ill and have been given a year left to live if my name doesn’t come up on the transplant list.

I’m also an black, indigenous artist and urgently need help with monthly bills and transport. Here’s my ‘disabled people deserve better’ pin.

This is for terminally ill people whose wish is to die peacefully, not the disabled who want to live.

Same a few years back with “we have to learn to live with Covid [by pretending it went away and ostracizing anyone who won’t go along with that fiction, up to and including mocking disabled and terminally ill people for taking the sensible precaution of wearing a mask].” 😷
every time you see a headline that begins with “we have to,” replace the “we” with “you” and you’ll immediately understand the purpose of the piece and the power dynamics at play

i actually have a kind of cyberpunk project on the back burner about a disabled and terminally ill woman who sells herself to a pharmaceutical giant to train its surgical AI on her body.

How would you handle cyberpunk, if you were willing?

Moreover, Canada's MAID started, I believe, as a service for terminally ill ppl. Firstly, how often do Drs get the prognosis wrong? I've read 40%. But, most importantly, MAID had mission creep to disabled pp (not terminally ill) and I think they're still arguing over the mental illness extension.
June 14, 2025 at 11:13 AM
I agree with you completely. I think Canada has done a relatively good job with the terminally ill. Most people I know who’ve had loved ones do MAiD said they felt it was a peaceful experience.

Where we’re failing is in the palliative care and supports for disabled people.

The Trump, Republican plan
End Medicare Drug premium subsidies
Terminally ill must work or die faster
Severely ill must work to accelerate death
Take healthcare from elderly, disabled, poor & working poor
Disease is rampant
Sec Treasury says saving for retirement will be pointless
You get it now?
July 30, 2026 at 10:21 PM
There really should be. And there were when it was just for the terminally ill. The rules went away when it became an option for the disabled.

This is a list of the amendments that the UK rejected when the House of Commons gave green light to Assisted Dying legislation

Read it carefully. This is a life & death matter

"To require proof of non-coercion" is one of the rejected amendments

This is exactly what disabled people are afraid of:

being involved in mentally ill and disabled circles online is really funny because a depressive, largely uncommunicative waif with the exact energy of the terminally ill wife in Hana-bi will out of nowhere start posting about 20th century French intellectuals
