The gold standard for producing PDF documents (especially books and journal articles) has been LaTeX. @typst.app re-engineered the entire process in an incredibly elegant extensible way. On my MacOS LaTeX (TexLive) takes 9.1GB of disk space. Typst takes 43MB. Not a misprint.

Important for #astrosky: Overleaf seems to upgraded to TeXLive v2026 in the past few days, and as a result, your aastex v7 / aasjournal v7.1 might be broken.
To fix it, go to Overleaf's File > Settings > Compiler > TeX Live version > [select 2025]

Important for #astrosky: Overleaf seems to upgraded to TeXLive v2026 in the past few days, and as a result, your aastex v7 / aasjournal v7.1 might be broken.

Lyckades crasha min skrivbordsdator hemma. Såååå glad att jag sedan många år har typ allt på Dropbox, så nu har jag installerat Ubuntu 26.04 LTS och är up and running igen.
(Har också installerat några program som jag använder mkt, som texlive-full men alla devtools är inte uppe än)

Sitter och installerar texlive-all (ni som vet, vet) på jobb-PC:n och känner plötsligt en sådan ömhet mot Mackan förritin som gjorde sånt här på kanske en 2 Mbit uppkoppling. Eller första ggn jag installerade ”allt” LaTeX-jox var det på en 128 Kbit (!)

earlier today i tried to uninstall texlive (latex and texlive* packages) but after doing that and then trying to do a system update, opensuse kept insisting on reinstalling the entirety of texlive and i couldn't figure out why ???
i eventually had to just mark all texlive packages as "locked" […]

OK, great… because we used the “cleveref” package which is no longer maintained and arXiv compiles by default with TeXLive 2025, our internal references are broken: instead of saying “theorem 4.17”, it says “anything 4.17”. 😭

Flatpak has an “SDK” thingajig for TeXLive, too, that integrates with Flatpack'd editors, though actually enabling it is a less-than-turnkey process (gotta set FLATPAK_ENABLE_SDK_EXT=texlive in Flatseal and point the editor to the right paths).

I just install all of TeXLive and call it a day :)
