I love the ongoing adventures of #DHmakes hungover TextGrid owl. 😍 Maybe it's the one little random creation of mine that's seen the most of the world.

We will be holding a short workshop today at the Göttingen State and University Library with the title 'Publishing digital editions and corpora in the TextGrid Repository'. www.sub.uni-goettingen.de/ueber-uns/oe...

If you're fine with Whisper, it's pretty straightforward in Python. You'll have to do some work converting it to a Praat TextGrid though, so this might not work in your pipeline. Chunking AFAIK is not super straightforward.

Whoa. Praat can automatically transcribe audio using Whisper now. www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/manual...

I could expand it more to do a more automated pipeline, including export a TextGrid right there, but I wasn't able to finish that this week. For now, you can use ELAN to make that conversion. Perhaps soon I can do a follow-up tutorial.

Oh and it looks like top of the textgrid actually lines up vertically with the bottom of the image! No more trial and error with clunky pink rectangles!

Workflow for my current project:
Transcribe sound files in Elan
> convert to Praat textgrid
> process with Montreal Forced Aligner
> correct & annotate in Praat
> measurements with Praat script
> minor fiddling in Excel
> process output with Python script
> stats in R

an immodest moment: I think aligned-textgrid is the best package out there for programmatically working with Praat textgrids, and I wrote a *lot* of docs (all put together into one pdf, it's 93 pages)

If you do things with textgrids, and want to know how to do them with aligned-textgrid, let me know!

In anticipation for the aligned-textgrid poster at SCiL (jofrhwld.github.io/scil_2024/), I've started a "cookbook" of how to do things with the package, like annotate overlapping speech etc. forced-alignment-and-vowel-extraction.github.io/alignedTextG...

the new release of aligned-textgrid, on the other hand, ought to be fully tested for the new tier-interleaving I had to implement.

Well, after getting fixated on the idea of an auto-syllabifying function, which involved a new release of aligned-textgrid, I've got a "no tests just vibes" python package for it. forced-alignment-and-vowel-extraction.github.io/fave-syllabi...

Here's a little how-to blog post about using fasttrackpy for formant tracking and aligned-textgrid for dealing with textgrids. They're useful! jofrhwld.github.io/blog/posts/2...

if you have used fasttrack, it would be helpful to know how you might use a fasttrack command line tool. e.g. do you usually have a directory of wav files? a directory of wav & textgrid files? lmk here

Unlike FAVE-classic, I'm writing tests out the wazoo. aligned-textgrid has about 90% coverage, and I'm aiming for the 80s for the other modules, just cause with everything getting modularized, I need to make sure it'll all work together

well, Points were a little tricky to add, but they work a bit more simply: aligned-textgrid v0.4.0 now has point tiers.

do you work with PoLaR prosody annotation (www.polarlabels.com) and also python? I’ve got a working prototype of aligned-textgrid that will process PoLaR textgrids, but would be great to know the kinds of *things* that would make life easier. colab.research.google.com/drive/1zC38N...
