There were some congress members who were involved in destroying the union.
They represented states that succeeded from the union and went to war with the states that remained loyal to the union.
It was in all of the papers at the time.

Rewatching #TheCivilWar by Ken Burns. There are several tens of millions of ppl who need be strapped to chairs and made to watch it, and realize how bad it was. And how a handful of mad white men keep pushing our society to the limits. [Speaking as a distant ancestor of Jeff Davis].
Of comfort in learning more about the run-up to #TheCivilWar is that our coalitions have always been messy & shuffling around in the US.
