My second tale is told by #CeciliaTregarron, known as #TheMerryWidow, about a strange occurrence experienced during a family visit #SnakeAndDagger #MissMercy #NathanielTregarron #NathanielTheScribe #SilasCooper #ArtYear #art #TraditionalArt #drawing
A page of drawings and text. The upper drawings are of a beautiful woman with her hair in ringlets tied back, and an older, handsome man with white hair. They begin by discussing the previous tale, saying what a sad story it was. The beautiful woman, Cecilia Tregarron, is then encouraged to tell of a strange experience she has had. The lower drawing shows a coach and horses, which has just arrived outside a fine house. A groom has hold of the horses reins, and the people in the coach are ready to disembark. The text shows it is Cecilia and her family, about to visit their uncle and aunt's family., who have been living abroad, and have just come home to a new house. A page of drawings and text. The text shows the whole family walking a fairly short distance to visit a neighbour. As the walk, Cecilia and her cousin lag behind, and see a beautiful Tudor house, with knot gardens in the front. The drawing shows it has black and white designs, and a brick chimney. There is a fancy arched entrance to the courtyard at the front, which is walled off from the garden. It is in pristine condition, and looks almost new. The cousin seems surprised, as she did not remember seeing it before. The text shows the excitement of the visit makes them forget the house, and they do not see it on the way back, as they travel by carriage. A page of drawings and text. The text shows that the two young women remember the house in the morning, and beg Cecilia's brother to take them to have a better look at it. When they get there, there is only rough grassland with a few roses growing wild, and the remnants of a brick structure, possibly a chimney stack (pictured). The next drawing shows a small, pretty woman with very curly, Grey hair, Miss Mercy. She says she thinks Cecilia got a look into the past. The text shows Cecilia agrees, and that she wonders what would have happened if the two women would have gone into the garden. The next drawing shows a good-looking man, with long white hair, a beard and mustache, and metal-rimmed glasses. It is Cecilia's husband, Nathaniel. He says he is glad she didn't go into the garden, saying she belongs here with him in the present.

This is a bit of an experiment, but I have done a #SnakeAndDagger story for Halloween. There are 4 separate tales, each of which I am putting up, one per day #SilasCooper #CeciliaTregarron #TheMerryWidow ##NathanielTheScribe #NathanielTregarron #MissMercy
A page of drawings and text. The drawing is of a cottage on a stormy Autumn day, the trees around it being blown by very strong winds, some losing their leaves. The text shows four members of the Snake and Dagger organisation talking about All Hallows Eve traditions. Silas mentioned he once had a strange experience he couldn't explain. A page of drawings and text. At the right top is a drawing of Cecilia Tregarron. The main picture is of an old cottage fireplace, with four chairs around it. Cecilia proposes they recount their strange experiences after dinner, as it is All Hallows Eve. A page of drawings and text. This page shows two head shots of Silas as he tells a tale from his days as a young soldier. After a battle, he goes to find his friend who he finds badly wounded. A page of drawings and text. The picture shows a young soldier in an old fashioned British uniform, with a being of light hovering near his head. The text shows Silas sees this and cries out, making the light being turn towards him. He runs towards his friend, hitting a hollow, before coming back up to the rise. The light being is gone and his friend has passed away. He prays over him, then returns to the rest of his company, filled with sadness and awe.

Day 14 of #inktober2026 Lady. Another of my #SnakeAndDagger characters making an appearance. The lovely Cecilia Tregarron #TheMerryWidow #ArtYear #art #TraditionalArt #drawing
A pen drawing of a beautiful woman in Regency dress with some text next to her reading 'Known as 'The Merry Widow'. Formerly Lady Cecilia De Quincy. She is now happily married to Nathaniel Tregarron, the bastard son of the Earl of Carstairs. No longer a lady by title, but always considered as such by those who know her well."

I might be a bit quiet on here while I do this painting. It's a symbolic piece, featuring Mr and Mrs Tregarron. Here's the #WIP, using #ClaudiaJessie and #LoganHillier as references #SnakeAndDagger #ArtYear #art #TraditionalArt #TheMerryWidow #NathanielTheScribe
An unfinished painting showing a beautiful woman with long, brown hair in ringlets, and a handsome man, with shoulder length grey hair, a beard and mustache. The rest of the piece shows only the underdrawing.

The contact sheet from silent film star Mae Murray's 1959 photo session with Cecil Beaton. Heavily made up and pantomiming a range of emotions, Murray appears to be reliving her glory days as a goddess of the silver screen. Is this an act of cruelty or charity on Mr. Beaton's part? Must it be one or the other?

Page 18 of #PastImperfect Cecil confronts Cecilia
#SnakeAndDagger #ArtYear #art #TraditionalArt #drawing #CecildeQuincy #CeciliaTregarron #TheMerryWidow
A page of drawings and text. The text shows Cecilia, a beautiful woman in a Regency riding outfit and hat, riding down the coastal path, when a shot rings out from trees next to her, causing her horse to rear up, unseating her. She tries to cling onto the horse's mane (top drawing), but falls to the ground. When she comes round, the sinister figure of her deceased husband's brother looms over her. Cecil is partially bald and has a sneering expression. The text shows he means to throw Cecilia over the nearby cliff edge to her death. Before he can pick her up, another shot rings out startling Cecil, which gives Cecilia the chance to roll away from him.

His younger brother, Jonathan de Quincy, has realised his brother has lied to him, and is now part of the group protecting Cecilia. He says they must wait for Cecil to make the next move. Cecilia, pictured in a head shot, says she is willing to act as bait to force Cecil's hand. Tobias Smith (pictured) agrees reluctantly. The lower picture sees Cecilia riding a horse at their stables, ready to lure Cecil to the nearby cliffs to make another attempt on her life, whilst other members hide in the area to stop him before he succeeds.

Good day! Here's the first page of my new story #PastImperfect #ArtYear #art #TraditionalArt #drawing #SnakeAndDagger #CranstonWillobey #TheMerryWidow
A page of drawings and text. A full page drawing of a grand Regency room with art works on the walls. Men stand around viewing them. One man seems transfixed by a painting of a beautiful woman. Another man is animatedly talking to a second man. The first man is Cranston Willobey, who owns the collection. The beautiful woman in the picture is Cecilia Tregarron, otherwise known as The Merry Widow. The text shows that rich people of the time invited people into their homes to view their art, as the Prince Regent was an art lover, which made it fashionable. The lower text mentions the man staring at the painting of Cecilia.
